SQL Tuning for SQL Server
Version 6.3
Release Notes
June 11, 2007
SQL Tuning is the most comprehensive optimization solution available for SQL Server environments. This component offers complete SQL performance optimization with problematic SQL detection, automated SQL optimization and benchmarking capabilities. With it you can lower I/O and CPU costs with optimized SQL statements, reduce the learning curve by providing an intuitive SQL optimization environment, streamline the SQL optimization process by avoiding the trial and error method involved with manual SQL tuning. Some of its product highlights include:
New Features in SQL Tuning for SQL Server 6.3
The following is a list of issues addressed and enhancements implemented in this release of SQL Tuning for SQL Server.
Feature |
Resolved Issue |
Change Request |
General |
In SQL Server 2005, SQL Tuning now recognizes tables that are owned by a Schema whose name is not the same as the User name. |
CR0187607 |
Launching SQL Tuning | When you have not selected a valid SQL statement before launching SQL Tuning for Toad, the Database drop-down list in the Tuning Lab is now correctly populated with the list of available databases. | CR0207102 |
You can now successfully launch SQL Tuning from Toad or Quest Central when the Server does not have a database with the same name as the User which you are currently using in Toad or Quest Central. |
CR0183732 |
|
Temp Tables |
The program no longer crashes when you copy some text from the SQL Text window in the Tuning Lab and paste it into the User-Defined Temp Table window. |
CR0186308 |
Decribe Data |
In the Table section of the Describe Data window, the Num Rows items correctly displays the number of rows in the table. |
CR0088977 |
SQL Optimizer |
The SQL optimization process no longer causes an Access Violation when the "Transform view to derived table" option is applied to a view that was created by a user other than DBO. |
CR0206584 |
The following is a list of issues known to exist at the time of SQL Tuning for SQL Server release.
Feature |
Known Issue |
Change Request |
Temp Tables
|
When the DDL for creating the temporary tables in the User-Defined Temp Table window contains a parameter, the Parameter window does not appear so you cannot enter the value for the parameter. |
CR0087382 |
SQL Scanner | In Performance Analysis for SQL Server version 6.0, the default name of the database where the SQL Repository is created is Quest_Peformance_Repository, but you can choose a different name. In the earlier versions of Performance Analysis, the name was always Quest_Peformance_Repository. The SQL Scanner only looks for Quest_Peformance_Repository, so if another name was used for this database, the Scanner will not find the SQL Repository. | CR0213940 |
The SCLD (single command line dynamic) scanning algorithm does not work. This scanning option is selected in the Summary page of the Add Jobs wizard. | CR0217804
In the Execution Plan pane of the Scanned SQL Viewer window, when you click the Show Plan Detail button, the tables should be displayed in the left pane of the Show Plan Detail window. Sometimes the tables are missing from the display. |
CR0215985 | |
The SQL Scanner does not open successfully when running on the Vista operating system. | CR0215986
Tuning Lab | After you have executed the Get Plan function which retrieves the execution plan for a SQL statement, the SQL classification is displayed in the Alert window. All of the information for the SQL classification is sometimes not displayed in the Alert window. Workaround: Click the Get Plan button a second time. |
CR0215557 |
Installation | Installing SQL Tuning on a PC running the Vista operating system may fail. Workaround: Before install Quest SQL Optimizer change the following operating system setting.
|
|
Integration with Toad | When Toad for SQL Server 3.0 is installed on your PC and you use either the "Browse Data" or Retrieve Results" feature, you will get an "Login failed for user 'username' " error message. Both of these functions are attempting to send a SQL statement to Toad which you could then execute in Toad. But the SQL statement is not displayed in the Toad editor because of the error message. | CR0211617 |
