Calculate Summary Data

Use the Summary Editor to calculate a summary for a label that is bound to data.

To calculate summary data

  1. Add a label control from the Toolbox to the report band where you want to calculate the summary, and bind it to the data.

Note: The label must be bound to numeric or date/time data in order to calculate the summary.

  1. Click the Summary link near the bottom of the Property Grid.

  2. Review the following for additional information:

    Bound field

Displays the field bound to the label. You can modify this information if needed.

    Summary function

Select the type of summary you want to calculate.

    Format string

Click to select the format to use when displaying the calculated output.

    Ignore Null values

Select this checkbox to ignore Null values when calculating the summary.

    Summary Running

Select one of the following options:

    • Group—Calculates the summary for all values in a group. The displayed result varies based on where the label is located in a band.

If the label is located in a GroupHeader or GroupFooter band, results are calculated for that group.

If the label is located in a band, results are calculated beginning at the first record and ends with the current record in the group.

    • Report—Calculates the summary for the entire report, regardless of the band where the label is located.

    • None—Does not calculate a summary.
