Configure Service Broker

Use Service Broker to configure asynchronous communication between applications on SQL Server instances.

Note: Service Broker functionality is only available with SQL Server 2005 or later.

To open Service Broker

Select Tools | Administer | Service Broker from the menu. The Service Broker window consists of the following:

Tree view

View the SQL Server 2005 instances currently connected. When expanded, the tree has the following structure:

-SQL Server 2005 Instance

---Database

------Object Folders

The database icon indicates the status of the Service Broker:

= Enabled 

= Disabled 

 

You can right-click within the tree (where at least one item exists) and create, edit, or delete an object. For XML Schemas only, you can also view the currently selected XML Schema Collection.

Overview tab

View an overview of the currently selected node on the tree that includes the following:

  • SQL Server instance—Displays network connections to the endpoint.

  • Database—Displays messages currently in the Transmission queue .

  • Object folder—Displays a list of objects of the current type that have been defined for the database. For example, for the Message Type node, the Overview tab displays the message types defined for the database.

  • Conversations folder—Displays the conversations in which the database is currently involved.

Event Notifications tab

View any event notifications.

Description tab

View information about the current node.
