You can find and replace text across multiple files in a directory structure. This is useful when making a change that can affect multiple source files or scripts.
Troubleshooting: You can view the status of the Find/Replace operation or can cancel a long running task from the Background Processes window. See Stop Background Processes for more information.
To find and replace text in files
Select Edit | Find and Replace | Find/Replace in Files from the menu (CTRL+SHIFT+F).
Review the following for additional information:
Find Options | Description |
Mark with bookmarks |
Select this checkbox to add a bookmark to any line where the search term is present. |
Open matching files |
Select this checkbox to open all files matching your criteria in the Editor Note: This checkbox should not be selected if there is a possibility of finding a large number of files. |
Use regular expressions |
Select this checkbox to search using regular expressions. See Supported Regular Expressions for more information. |

Description |
Category |
Select whether to display results in the same category of the Output window used in the previous search, or in a new category. |
Append results |
Select this checkbox to append search results to the selected category. If this checkbox is cleared, new results automatically overwrite any existing results in the selected category. |
Note: Result options are only available when displaying results in the Output window. |
Note: If you click Mark All, it automatically opens all files matching the search criteria in the Editor because the files must be open in order to mark the search text.
