Define Alert Properties

This topic focuses on information that may be unfamiliar to you. It does not include all step and field descriptions.

To define alert properties

Complete the fields as necessary. Review the following for additional information:

Event alert description	Description
Alerts will be raised on	Complete the following: Select the SQL Server error number to associate with this alert. See Manage Error Messages for more information. Specify a severity level for this alert. Valid values are 1 through 25.
Raise alert when message contains	Select this checkbox to execute the alert if the message contains text you enter in the field.
Performance condition alert definition	Description
Object	Select the object for which you want to monitor performance.
Counter	Select the performance counter, such as waits, locks, or transactions for which you want to set the alert.
Instance	Select a named instance associated with the counter.
Alert if counter	Select whether to raise the alert if the counter falls below, becomes equal to, or rises above a specified value.
Value	Enter a value to associate with this alert.
